Our daughter made her first holy communion last week and we had a small party for her special day. I planned on giving our guests lovely communion favors to mark this special party. The gifts in the shops I went to just didn’t strike my fancy. Then I thought about going online to shop for party favors. There were quite a few lovely votive candles that worked out perfectly for table decoration. I chose decorative tins filled with candy for the grown ups and the children received candies packaged in adorable little teddy bear containers as their first holy communion favors. I found the most lovely little picture frames with crosses on them and decided to get everyone an extra gift. They were so pretty that I thought I’d buy some for my bookshelf as well.
It was almost like we were looking for her wedding dress, instead of a dress for her communion. I know that before long she’ll be walking down the aisle on her wedding day. Her beautiful dress and veil made her look so much like a miniature bride. I guess a wedding reception and communion party isn’t all that much different. We ordered a cake, had lots of food for everyone and even had a band. We wanted to make this a day she would always remember, without going overboard on decorations or accessories. I also bought a girls pink photo album for her to have as her very own with pictures of her first holy communion day and the party with her friends and family. Like I said before we wanted to keep things as simple as possible and not go overboard, so me and some of the other moms made the food, and the only thing I ordered for it was the cake. We had fried chicken, potato salad, vegetables and a few different types of salads. We had a fantastic dinner to share with our family and our best friends. We all had such a wonderful time and it was a very lovely party. Her father and I had her name engraved on a beautiful gold cross we ordered for her, and there were many wonderful communion gifts she received from our guests, too.
All during the party I was picturing her wedding day and I could see my little girl walking down the aisle to join her husband to be. I know that day is not so far away and we will be sitting down checking out the online selection for wedding favors and accessories.
